LAX Rental Car Center (ConRAC)

The new LAX Rental Car Center (ConRAC) is officially open, and while it’s a massive upgrade for the airport, there’s a "catch" that most travelers don't realize until they land.

Here is the breakdown of what’s changed at LAX and why your arrival strategy might need a pivot.

The Big News: All Rental Cars Are in One Place

As of March 2026, LAX has finally consolidated all 12 major rental brands (Hertz, Enterprise, Avis, Sixt, etc.) into one giant, 5-floor facility right off the 405. No more hunting for specific off-site lots or wondering where your company’s individual shuttle is hiding. It’s all under one roof.

The Problem: The Train Isn't Running Yet

This is the part that catches people off guard. The "Automated People Mover"—the elevated train designed to whisk you from your terminal to the car center in 10 minutes—is still not open. It’s currently delayed until late 2026.

What this means for you right now:

If you rent a car, you still have to follow the purple signs, wait at the curb for a shuttle bus, and sit in the infamous LAX "horseshoe" traffic. Travelers are reporting that the shuttle-to-counter process is still taking anywhere from 30 to 50 minutes during peak hours.

Why We Think There’s a Better Way

The goal of a vacation or business trip is to get out of the airport, not spend an hour navigating its new infrastructure. Here is how a private car service stacks up against the new rental center experience:

Skip the Shuttle: Instead of waiting for a bus with 40 other people, you walk straight to the curb. We meet you there (or at baggage claim if you choose Meet & Greet).

The "Luggage Lug": Dragging four suitcases and a stroller onto a shuttle, off a shuttle, and through a 6-million-square-foot rental facility is exhausting. With us, your luggage goes from the terminal directly into our trunk.

The Car Seat Factor: Most rental agencies "offer" car seats, but they often come out of a dusty bin and you have to install them yourself. Our car seats are sanitized, professional-grade, and pre-installed before we even arrive.

The new Rental Car Center is a great step forward for LAX, and eventually, that train will make it a breeze. But for now, the "shuttle shuffle" is alive and well.

If you’d rather spend your first hour in LA heading toward your hotel instead of standing in a rental line, we’re here to help. We offer flat rates to Santa Monica, Anaheim, Ojai, and beyond—with none of the "new facility" growing pains.
